Wood Frame Construction Manual (WFCM) for One and Two-Family Dwellings (2001 National Ed.) is an ANSI approved document that will provide engineered and prescriptive requirements for all wood frame construction that is based on alive, dead, seismic, snow and wind loads that are derived from the 2000 International Building Code. This text was developed over a six-year period by AF&PA's WFCM.ANSI Canvass committee. The WFCM represents a major milestone for the wood products industry. Code enforcement officials and designers will now have one comprehensive design reference that will provide solutions for residential wood can structure them, which is increasingly being regulated, especially in higher load regions.
The WFCM includes can structure and design provisions for wall systems, connections, roof systems and floor systems. A range of structural elements are covered throughout the text, including sawn lumber, would stretch rules sheathing, glued laminated timber, I-joists, and trusses. Provisions approved by the 2000 IBC are also included for perforated shearwalls, wall stud system factors as well as increased capacities for shearwalls and diaphragms that are used in high wind applications.
This text also provides background information and example calculations for various selections and tables from the WFCM. This commentary was developed to respond to user needs.
