New safeguards for LNG plants across the United States!
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants associated with pipelines must meet the
requirements of NFPA 59A, the Standard adopted by D.O.T. and
referenced by other agencies including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
The Standard is used worldwide as the final word on site selection, design,
construction, and fire protection for LNG plants.
Broader coverage in the 2006 edition provides better protection:
First-time provisions for the siting and diking of double containment and
full containment LNG containers offers a new level of safety for
installations.
Revised seismic design criteria for large, field-erected LNG containers
reflects ASCE 7, which provides more specific criteria and enhances the
already conservative seismic design basis.
Revised design spill sizing guards against accidents. Changes affect
containers with penetrations below the liquid level, with internal valves
from 1 hour to 10 minutes.
Revised inspection requirements for field-fabricated containers now allow
ultrasonic examination as well as radiographic.
Other changes improve plant security, operations, and maintenance.
The 2006 NFPA 59A presents a new security assessment requirement
that impacts all LNG facilities. This edition also introduces revised sizing of
pumps to remove rainwater from diked areas; and includes an expanded section on
berthing, hose, and loading arm requirements for LNG tankers at marine
facilities. Approx. 53 pp.
