Every year, wildland fire incidents in North America pose an increasing threat to communities and typically demand more resources than the local first responders can provide. The new NFPA 1143 specifies the latest management practices and policies necessary for communities and agencies to enact a successful wildland fire management plan.

This important standard is utilized by local government and volunteer fire departments to develop an approach consistent with today's NFPA® standards on emergency services incident management and disaster management programs. The Code also helps personnel keep current with fire fighter safety practices, and incorporates material to help small communities prepare for fire suppression in forested and wildland areas.

 The 2009 NFPA 1143: Standard for Wildland Fire Management recognizes the development of the National Fire Plan in the United States and numerous mitigation efforts to solve the problem of ailing forests and endangered communities in or near forested areas. 37pp.
