Developed by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) helps manufacturers, contractors, installers, and inspectors provide safe and sanitary plumbing systems using the latest technologies and innovations. The UPC is compatible with all model building codes.
The UPC provides minimum standards and requirements to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, installation, quality of materials, location, operation and maintenance or use of plumbing systems.
The 2003 edition of the UPC will be part of the Comprehensive Consensus Codes (C3) set. The first of its kind, C3 is the only full set of integrated consensus-based, codes and standards that covers the built environment. The C3 set is also the only set of codes approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
The C3 set includes codes and standards from a wide range of well-respected code development organizations including: NFPA, IAPMO, Western Fire Chiefs Association (WFCA), and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
